This page describes what information The Homes Screen collects, why, and what choices you have about it. We've tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.
What we collect
If you fill out our contact form, a calculator's "save my estimate" form, or our newsletter signup, we collect your name and email address. If you use a financial calculator (like the HELOC calculator), we also store the figures you enter (e.g. home value, mortgage balance, credit tier) and the estimate we generate from them. The calculator's optional "see what homes in your area are valued at" check sends the ZIP code you enter to the U.S. Census Bureau's public API to look up an area-level median — that ZIP code isn't stored anywhere. We also record which page you came from, and — if present — UTM campaign parameters and the page that referred you, so we can understand which content and channels are actually working. We do not collect this information from anyone who doesn't submit a form.
Cookies and analytics
We use your browser's local storage (not a tracking cookie) to remember your cookie preference itself. With your explicit opt-in — asked via the banner on this site — we also load Google Analytics to understand traffic. If you don't opt in, or you reject or later revoke it, Google Analytics never loads and no analytics data is collected about your visit. You can change this choice anytime via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we honor it automatically as an opt-out.
If you submit the contact form or a calculator, we send a one-time confirmation email — this isn't optional, since it's a direct response to something you just did, not marketing. If you also check the newsletter box, we'll send our monthly newsletter plus a small number of relevant follow-up emails in the days after you use a calculator. Every one of those includes an unsubscribe link that immediately and permanently opts you out.
Who we share data with
We use third-party services to run this site: Supabase (database hosting), Google (processing calculator inputs to generate your estimate, and Analytics if you opt in), Brevo (sending the emails described above), and GitHub (hosting our published article content). These providers process data on our behalf and don't use it for their own purposes. We do not sell your data.
We are not a lender and have no relationship with any mortgage, title, escrow, appraisal, or insurance company — we never share your information with one. Some links on this site (to retailers like Amazon) are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you make a purchase — this doesn't involve sharing any of your personal information with the retailer beyond what your own browser/account with them already does when you click through and shop.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails anytime via the link in any email, or by disabling the checkbox before submitting a form.
- Delete your data anytime at homesscreen.com/delete-my-data — this permanently removes your contact info and calculator results.
- Manage cookie/analytics preferences anytime via the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer.
Children
This site isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
